Daniel Roth has unveiled a striking new addition to its Extra Plat collection: the Rose Gold Gilt. This timepiece draws inspiration from a rare black-dialed version of the original Ultra-Thin Manual from the early 1990s, bringing a vintage aesthetic into the modern era with advanced manufacturing techniques.

A Dial That Captures Light and History

The centerpiece of this watch is its dial, which employs the true gilt method. Rather than printing the indices, the dial is crafted from solid gold, then treated and selectively masked to reveal the gold beneath a black electroplated surface. The result is a deep, multi-dimensional look where markings appear etched into the dial. The process involves hand-finishing the gold on a rose engine for a pinstripe guilloché pattern, followed by precision pad printing to mask the indices, and multiple electroplating baths to achieve the rich black hue. Finally, a de-masking step dissolves the varnish, leaving the gold details exposed.

Case and Dimensions

The case maintains the signature Daniel Roth double-ellipse shape, measuring 38.6mm by 35.5mm with a slim 7.7mm profile. It is crafted from 5N rose gold and features a flat sapphire crystal on the front and a display case back. The watch offers 30 meters of water resistance and comes on a black calfskin strap with a matching rose gold pin buckle.

Movement: Calibre DR002

Powering the watch is the in-house Calibre DR002, developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the guidance of Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. The shaped movement is specifically designed to fit the case, measuring 31mm by 28mm and just 3.1mm thick. It beats at 4 Hz and provides a 65-hour power reserve. Finishing includes wide Geneva stripes and hand-bevelled edges.
